On 3rd of June 2021, the Commission presented its Communication the EU Action Plan: ‘Towards Zero Pollution for Air, Water and Soil’, adopted on 12th of May, to the European Parliament’s Committee on the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety (ENVI). The Action Plan, falling under the European Green Deal, is one of three pillars of the so-called «zero pollution ambition for a toxic-free environment” together with the Chemicals Strategy for Sustainability (CSS) and the upcoming revision of the Industrials Emissions Directive (IED). This communication aims to set out an integrated vision for 2050 on a significant number of EU policies dealing with ‘emissions’ to air, water and soil. The Action Plan is accompanied by an Annex that lists actions to be implemented by 2024. Additionally, there are also two accompanying Staff Working Documents (SWD), one on ‘digital solutions’ and one on ‘monitoring and outlook framework’.
